Most Bollywood films are transient. Entertaining while you are in the theatre. But the minute you step outside, you’ve pretty much forgotten all about it.
The characters never stay with you. Their unique predicament doesn’t haunt you for weeks afterwards.
The rampant ‘Bollywoodisation’ of news stories (‘News as Entertainment’) has had the same impact on viewers. Sure, it makes for entertaining viewing. But the stories never stick. And because they don’t stick, they never provoke any thought.
That’s why the viewer never really gets involved.
